Dr. Conlon is the Director of Critical Care Ultrasound at CHOP. He has also served as the Pediatric Ultrasound Committee Chair for SCCM.
Learning Objectives:
To describe how effective two-way communication within and between disciplines helps support the translation of skill development to clinical care
To identify the needs of the ultrasound educational frontier and suggest solutions to overcome local implementation barriers
To discuss why data-driven people may not always use data-driven considerations when integrating new technologies in clinical practice

Dr. Thomas Conlon is an Assistant Professor at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He serves as the Director of Critical Care Ultrasound and has worked locally to develop ultrasound curriculum for trainees as well as maintain diagnostic ultrasound credentialing processes for faculty. He co-directs the biannual CHOP Bedside Ultrasound Course, offering multi-discipline training over two days in pediatric acute care procedural and diagnostic ultrasound applications.
Dr. Conlon previously served as Pediatric Ultrasound Committee Chair as well as Basic and Advanced Ultrasound Course Chair for the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). He has delivered both SCCM and CHOP-based courses to diverse audiences around the world including over 40 international lectures across Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Turkey, The United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. He has co-authored multiple manuscripts, chapters, and editorials on pediatric acute care ultrasound and served as co-editor for the second edition of Comprehensive Critical Care Ultrasound published by SCCM. He was recently co-author of international critical care and neonatal ultrasound guidelines through The European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC) and is leading efforts for North American guideline development within the pediatric critical care community. Dr. Conlon currently sits on point-of-care ultrasound advisory committees within ESPNIC as well as the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE).
